• An Update From Ashlie at Sunset Alaskan Malamutes

Sunset Alaskan Malamutes will look a lot different moving forward. As you've noticed, I've been lining up Pet & Guardian Homes for almost all of my Malamutes. I'm doing this to prepare for a massive change to our life. With the fur babies in Guardian Homes, this will allow for me to gradually retire my entire breeding program. Our family is preparing for a move to the city in 2027 and there is no possible way to keep all of these beautiful Malamutes within city limits. While I love raising these wonderful creatures I have to be honest with myself and with what is possible moving forward. If you have wanted a Sunset puppy don't worry, I'll be working with my wonderful Guardian Families to have a litter or two in 2027 & 2028. But as the next couple of years come to an end, so will Sunset Alaskan Malamutes. I will personally be keeping a few of my fur babies and will have a litter once in a blue moon. If you would like to give one of these wonderful adult Malamutes a loving home, please message me. Help me close this chapter of 14 years with each one getting the happy ending that they deserve.

    Guardian Home Program

There is no charge to the Guardian Family. Please reach out to me if this is something you may be interested in.

A Guardian Home Program allows me to place a "pick-of-the-litter" puppy with a permanent family at no upfront cost to the family. In this case these are my pick adults. The family raises the dog as a cherished pet, while I retain the breeding rights for the duration of two litters. Some dogs live life with their family without ever being needed for a litter. After the litters, full ownership transfers to the family. In some cases I sign over ownership without ever needing the dog for a single litter.

Breeder: Pays for all health testing and breeding-related veterinary expenses.

Guardian Family: Raises the dog and covers routine "pet" expenses like food, basic vet care, and grooming. Must live within 10 hours of Tuscaloosa County AL.

Retirement: Once the contract is fulfilled, I pay for the dog's spay/neuter and the family keeps the dog forever.

Bane is available to a Guardian Home

Bane is crate, house, & leash trained. He would do best in a home with large female dogs. He prefers to be an only male dog. He is fine with children who are 12+ years old. While he is good with some cats, I can not guarantee that he'll be good with all cats. Bane can move to his new home anytime this year 2026.

Poppy is available to a Guardian Home

Poppy is crate, house, & leash trained. She would do best in a home with medium/large dogs. She is fine with children who are 8+ years old. While she is good with cats, I do recommend caution when introducing to new cats. Poppy can move to her new home anytime after her first litter is weaned in June 2026.
